Who we are
Grayson Games (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an independent video game studio based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any questions, you can reach us at [email protected].
This policy covers this website and the games we make available through it. It is written to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What we collect
We keep data collection to the minimum we need. Depending on how you interact with us, that may include:
- Information you give us. When you use our contact form or join our mailing list, we collect your name (if provided), your email address and the contents of your message.
- Game data. Our games save your progress and settings locally in your browser (for example in
localStorage). If you choose to enable cloud saves in a future release, your save data and an account identifier would be stored on our behalf by a hosting provider. - Technical and usage data. Like most websites, our servers and providers may log technical information such as your browser type, device information, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the pages you visit, so we can keep the site secure and working.
We do not knowingly collect special category data, and we do not buy personal data about you from third parties.
How we use your data and our legal bases
- To reply to you when you contact us — on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
- To send you updates such as dev diaries, playtest invites and launch news — only where you have given consent. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by emailing us.
- To run and improve our games and website, including saving your progress and keeping things secure and reliable — on the basis of our legitimate interests and, where required, your consent.
- To meet legal obligations where the law requires us to retain or disclose information.
Cookies and local storage
We aim to keep tracking to a minimum. We use essential browser storage (such as localStorage) so our games can save your progress and preferences on your device. If we introduce any non-essential or analytics cookies in future, we will ask for your consent first and update this policy.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us operate — for example website and game hosting, and email delivery for our mailing list. These providers act as our processors under contract and may only use your data on our instructions. Some may process data outside the UK; where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, users or the security of our services.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it. Contact enquiries are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and a reasonable period afterwards. Mailing list data is kept until you unsubscribe. Locally stored game data remains on your device until you clear it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- ask us to delete your data, or restrict how we use it;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it; and
- request a copy of your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Children
Our website and mailing list are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data through them. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our games and services develop. We will post any changes on this page and update the “last updated” date above.
